One of my biggest passions in life is drawing, I keep a sketchbook with me at all times and use it everyday! Recently, I’ve become more serious about improving my drawing abilities and I’ve found a few things that have helped me a lot that I’d like to share with you.
It’s more fun to make up drawings in your head before putting them on paper, but remember to also draw from life. Drawing from life will force you to observe the world as it really looks and give you a sharper mind for detail – which will make your drawings more accurate.
If there is an artist that makes work that you would like to learn from, one thing you can do to better understand that artist’s style is to trace it. Tracing trains both your eyes and hand to visualize and replicate the lines. Just remember that it’s not okay to take credit for the tracing since it’s not an original work made by you!
Don’t forget to seek inspiration from new places to avoid getting stuck in an art block! Try new things: use different drawing utensils or papers, experiment with color, try different styles or switch up the subject and themes of your drawings. Not only does this keep things new and exciting, you’ll be surprised to discover how much more you’ll learn when you take inspiration for a variety of sources.
Good luck with your drawings!
