As you may know I live in Puerto Rico, a small island in the Caribbean. Puerto Rico is about two hours away from Miami, Florida. There are many beautiful places to visit but my favorite place is Old San Juan. Old San Juan is a historic place, in 1972 it was registered in the U.S National Register of Historic Places. It has also been declared as a National Landmark District in 2013.
Old San Juan is known for its colonial architecture which is inspired from the Spanish Colonial design. The architecture is well known for its multicolored buildings which are full of old world colonial charm. When visiting Old San Juan you can find many shops that sell Puerto Rican traditional craftwork and souvenirs. You can also visit historic places, museums, open air cafés and restaurants. The atmosphere at Old San Juan is peaceful, you enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of our culture. One interesting aspect of Old San Juan is its cobblestone roads and its narrow sidewalks which give its colonial appeal.
Another interesting aspect about Old San Juan is that many cruise ships dock there, you will see an abundance of tourists visiting Old San Juan and other islands of the Caribbean, I strongly recommend if you will like to enjoy a great Caribbean vacation to visit San Juan and take a cruise during the months of September thru October and January thru April in which you can find deals on these all inclusive trips.
If you ever have a chance to visit Old San Juan please go to El Castillo del Morro which is a fort built by the Spaniards in the 16th century. Its purpose was to protect the city from enemies. You can take a tour of the Fort for $3.00 and you will enjoy its old colonial appeal and the beautiful scenery of the sea. As you can read Old San Juan is a very nice place to visit and enjoy the history of my land and experience firsthand a glimpse of my culture.
