22 Great Singers/Bands

I think the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in culture, movies, dramas, history, food, traditions, and everything else! For me, it really helps to understand how the language is used naturally, what words are really emotional, that kind of thing. So with that in mind, I wanted to recommend some English music. If you are interested, please have a listen!

So most people know about pop: Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, and Taylor Swift. Pop is really easy to find, so I won’t talk about that very much.

Alternative rock is my favourite! I especially like Radiohead (Haruki Murakami is a fan of them too), The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and The Foo Fighters. I also like one very small band called Gyroscope. They’re Australian, like me, and they have some amazing songs. If you’re interested, I recommend a song called Snakeskin.

I don’t know much about jazz but I’ve heard quite a few students are interested in it. A few jazz musicians I’ve heard of are Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. They’re very popular and influential among the jazz scene.

I like to rap in karaoke, because it’s easier than singing! Eminem is my favourite rapper but I also like Fort Minor (with Mike Shinoda, from Linkin Park), and Dr. Dre. The most popular rapper of all time is 2pac.

I just wanted to include ABBA somewhere. They were very popular in the 70s and everyone still loves them today. Elton John is also very cool. He wrote music for the movie The Lion King. The last band I want to mention is Queen. They are amazing musicians.

The 1980s mainly had a lot of amazing pop acts. Madonna, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston were all huge stars during this time. U2 emerged and became a very popular rock band.

Anyway, I hope you can find something you like among these artists!
