【South Korea – Part 5】

(Contributed by Alana)
Overall, my trip to South Korea was beautiful, fun, and exciting. It was great to see the contrast between Seoul, one of the biggest cities in the world, and Jeju, which is similar to a tropical island. I felt very lucky that I was able to experience both of these in one short trip.
It was also fantastic to explore a culture that is very different from my own. Practicing short phrases in Korean to use was very useful, so I could greet people, apologize, and say thank you. Learning some different customs, especially surrounding the temples and how to celebrate Buddha’s birthday, was amazing as well. It was so great that we were there for that holiday!
The best part of the trip, though, was being able to visit my friend and spend time with her again after months of not seeing each other. She was so happy to see us and we were able to bring her some presents to remind her of home. We brought her some clothes from a famous Canadian store that aren’t sold abroad. Her favourite gift from us was probably the sour cream and onion potato chips. These are her favourite flavour and they aren’t sold in South Korea, so she had been missing them for quite some time!
I’m very thankful that I was able to travel to the other side of the world. Now I need to choose another place to go next! Maybe somewhere closer than 15 hours away, though…
