A few weeks ago, I signed up for a library card. I haven’t been to a library in many years. In fact, the last time I went to the library was when I was in Chicago in 2007, but that was just to vote.
I’m fond of books, but I’d rather buy them so I can keep them and read them again. Plus, my brother always thought people looked smarter if they had a lot of books. I guess that’s another reason why I hadn’t gone in so long.
So, several weeks ago, I was driving home from downtown and passed the Daniel Boone Regional Library. It had changed so much since I had been there which was when I was in high school, or was it junior high? Anyway, as I drove by, I began thinking about all the wonderful books they had that I could checkout, for free!
Well, when I got home, I went straight to bed. I was too tired to go online, but the next day, during my lunch break, I signed up for my card. I figured that I would get it in the mail within a week or so, but it took a few. However, once it arrived, I was intrigued. There was so much more I could do with it than I had realized.
Not only could I check out books, but I could also check out movies, music, and more. On top of that, I could also checkout eBooks and audiobooks without even leaving my house! How cool was that. Technology is great, isn’t it?
I immediately downloaded the app, but because I had left my library card at home, I wasn’t able to actually get any books at that time. Once work was done, I headed home and immediately inputted my library card info. Then I began the quest to find some audiobooks that I wanted to listen too.
I ended up getting, “The Future of the Mind” by Michio Kaku and “The 4% Universe” by Richard Panek. Then, while at work, instead of listening to music or NPR news, I listened to them. Both were pretty interesting, but not enough to really keep me attentive. I listened to the later for a few hours, but it wasn’t very interesting. The first book was a bit more interesting so I listened to most of it.
I’m now listening to my third book which will take me a few days to get through. It a dramatic reading of The Bible which many famous actors and actresses participated in. I haven’t read The Bible all the way through, so I’m kind of excited about this because I can just sit back and listen.
I’m not sure what my next book will be. I guess you’ll just have to wait and find out.
Thanks for reading.
